An internship is a structured work experience that offers practical, on-the-job training while fostering intentional learning and professional growth. Internships differ from temporary work or volunteer opportunities in that they have clear learning goals, organized supervision, and a balance between organizational needs and the intern’s educational objectives. Usually lasting from one to twelve months, internships often serve as a one-time developmental opportunity and may be linked to academic programs or personalized learning plans that include training, mentorship, and assessment.
